There has been a study that playing tetris in our computer helps our brain to be more efficient.
According to Technologyreview.com:
Practicing the computer game Tetris appears to boost growth in some parts of the adolescent brain and to enhance efficiency in others, according to a study published today in the journal BMC Research Notes. According to the researchers, the study is the first to assess both brain structure and efficiency using two types of brain imaging before and after practicing a cognitive task.

The study compared adolescent girls who practiced Tetris over a three-month period and those who did not. According to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the practice group increased thickness of the cortex in certain areas. Their brains also appeared to function more efficiently in some areas, meaning they used less brainpower to complete the same tasks.

For me ill try to play tetris as long as i want to make my brain more efficient.

Yesterday in Apo View hotel, I and my classmates attended a seminar with the Adobe. The seminar was about Dream weaver, Fireworks, and Flash I forgot the other one. The topic was about their new flash cs4. It has new features and tools that the past flash had. During the seminar the new tools are introduce like the Bone tool that merge two different layers. It was really amazing that one of the features was when you want to move an object from left to right its automatic. You can also add caption to the video. They also gave bags, tutorials and 30 days installer. My money wasn’t wasted and I have learned new things and I wish that there are more seminars to come here in Davao City.

Then another news come out that Michael was really dead and i was really shocked about what happened. The cause of his death was cardiac arrest and was found in his house. At the hospital the doctors are trying to revive michael but it did not happened because the doctors said that he was already dead before he got to the hospital. I would say his the best not only in singing but also in dancing like his famous dance move the moonwalk. I thought san miguel was losing yesterday because the burger kings were making there shot in the last minutes of the game. Here In Davao There was a brown out so we did not finished the game. It took almost half an hour before the electricity got back and the the RPN was out of coverage and the website had a problem. Finally when the RPN had coverage the game was already finished but the commentator said that san miguel won the game with a score of 100 - 88 giving them the lead of the series 2-1.

THE risk to spacecraft from a collision with space debris could be reduced by equipping launchers with a gossamer-thin "sail". The idea is to deploy the sail after the rocket has released its payload to amplify the drag of the last vestiges of the atmosphere, and so force the rocket out of orbit.

Rocket stages are a particular risk to spacecraft because they often contain large amounts of unused fuel, which can explode when sunlight heats the tank. Leaking fuel can also act like a mini-thruster, pushing the rocket into an orbit where it may cause a collision. One way to tackle the problem is to vent unused fuel in a controlled way, and drain power from the battery, but this is unlikely to eliminate all collisions.

Now space-flight engineers Max Cerf and Brice Santerre at the European aerospace firm EADS Astrium are devising ways to build a sail that would quickly remove a spent rocket from orbit. The sail or "aerobrake" would be deployed after a rocket has delivered its satellite into low-Earth orbit, slowing it down by friction with the thin atmosphere so that burns up in around 25 years, much earlier than conventional rocket stages, some of which are expected to survive for at least 100 years.

For the final stage of an Ariane 5 launcher, the conical sail would need to have an area of about 350 square metres and be supported by an inflatable mast 12 metres long. Cerf and Santerre propose a number of possible ways to build the mast. The simplest envisages a woven polymer and aluminium tube that is kept inflated by nitrogen gas. Another uses a tube made of polymer composite, which after being inflated with nitrogen is set hard by the sun's ultraviolet rays. A third design uses epoxy resin that is set hard by solvent evaporation.

The pair revealed their designs at this month's Fifth European Conference on Space Debris in Darmstadt, Germany, organised by the European Space Agency.

It's a good idea, says Peter Roberts, a space-flight engineer at Cranfield University in the UK, who is working on similar technology for small satellites. "The risk of fragmentation of end-of-life spacecraft due to impacts from other debris can be greatly reduced by deploying a drag sail."

Photo of Abraham Lincoln Could Be His Last

A collector believes a photograph from a private album of Civil War Gen. Ulysses S. Grant shows President Abraham Lincoln in front of the White House and could be the last image taken of him before he was assassinated in 1865.

If it is indeed Lincoln, it would be the only known photo of the 16th president in front of the executive mansion and a rare find, as only about 130 photos of him are known to exist. A copy of the image was provided to The Associated Press.

Grant's 38-year-old great-great-grandson, Ulysses S. Grant VI, had seen the picture before, but didn't examine it closely until late January. A tall figure in the distance caught his eye, although the man's facial features are obscured.

He called Keya Morgan, a New York-based photography collector and Lincoln aficionado, who helped identify it as Lincoln.
"I was like, 'I don't know who this is, Keya,'" said Grant, a Springfield, Mo., construction business owner.

Although authenticating the 2 1/2-by-3 1/2-inch photo beyond a shadow of a doubt could be difficult, several historians who looked at it said the evidence supporting Morgan's claim is compelling and believable.

Morgan talked Grant into taking the photo out of the album and examining it for clues, such as the identity of the photographer.

"Not knowing who the photographer is is like not knowing who your mother or father is," Morgan told Grant.

Grant carefully removed it and was shocked to see the handwritten inscription on the back: "Lincoln in front of the White House." Grant believes his great-grandfather, Jesse Grant, the general's youngest son, wrote the inscription.

Also included was the date 1865, the seal of photographer Henry F. Warren, and a government tax stamp that was issued for such photos to help the Civil War effort between 1864 and 1866.

Morgan recalled the well-documented story of Warren's trip to Washington to photograph Lincoln after his second inauguration in March 1865. Lincoln was killed in April, so the photo could be the last one taken of him.

Warren, a commercial photographer from Massachusetts, enticed Lincoln into his frame shortly after the inauguration by taking pictures of young Tad Lincoln and asking the boy to bring his father along for a pose, according to the book, "Lincoln in Photographs: An Album of Every Known Pose," by Charles Hamilton and Lloyd Ostendorf.

"This is the first act of paparazzi ever toward a president," Morgan said. "Lincoln is not too happy at all."

Ancient Instrument Revived by Computing

Powerful grid computing has revived a stringed musical instrument that was last played in ancient Greece, Italian researchers announced at a recent conference in Catania, Sicily.

Called an epigonion after the 6th century B.C. musician Epigonus of Ambracia, the instrument was somewhat similar to a modern harp.

No complete example of an epigonion has survived, yet it is known the instrument had 40 strings of varying lengths and a soundboard, like a guitar. Its strings were plucked with fingers.

Using data from various sources, including images in artwork, fragments from excavations and written descriptions, researchers of the Ancient Instruments Sound/Timbre Reconstruction Application, or ASTRA, project succeeded in developing a 3D mechanical computer model of the instrument.
Materials, geometry and string profiles were then translated in a software program running on hundreds of high-speed computers in Europe and the lower Mediterranean area.

"This advanced physical modeling synthesis requires a massive amount of computing power. To produce 30 seconds of music, we needed four hours of processing using two European academic networks -- the GILDA and EUMEDGRID grid computing infrastructures," Domenico Vicinanza, technical co-ordinator of the ASTRA project and network engineer at DANTE (Delivery of Advanced Network Technology to Europe), told Discovery News.

The result was an accurate virtual model of the instrument which produced "a crisp and bright yet round and rich" sound from the past.

"As with instruments without a proper harmonic resonance box, the epigonion has a quite different timbre in the low and high range. We can say that its sound fits perfectly in Middle Age and Baroque music ensembles, melting wonderfully with strings and woodwinds," Vicinanza said.

Vicinanza and colleagues began their work on the vanished music of the past four years ago, when they resurrected the monochord, an instrument played by Pythagoras, the Greek mathematician and scientist.

With the advance of gps guided autonomous flying machine, we can look forward to a new alternative to public transportation. People have dreamed of space elevator for decades and we just not quiet there yet. But a sky elevator should be feasible with current technology.

First we will need a giant gps guided helium ballon that can stay stationary to ground with using propellor and wind speed monitor at an altitude of 3 to 5 mile. The ballon will drop powered cables to the ground to be hooked up with the flying capsule on the ground. The flying capsule shaped like a gyroplane with its own fuel, power system and flying system, but designed for long distance gliding with inflatble wings.

After reaching certain altitude, the cable will let go of the capsule and capsule's own flying system will take over, inflate its wings and automatically gliding its way to its preprogrammed destination most likely another skyelevator. With the gyroplane design, it should be able to land without a runway.

The skyelevator should be very energy efficient, and if flying can be done with only gps computer control, very easy to use as well. Only problem will be the bad weather and strong winds.

If space elevator indeed become a reality, sky elevator can be the easy connection point from the earth to space.

The positive effects of having online schools are learning in our house with out going to schools. And it saves time and it’s very efficient in a way that we don’t need to go to school. The negative effects is that the examination is online, in that way we search in the internet the answer instead of learning we learn to cheat and we are being too dependent to it. Also we don’t have any classmate to talk to.

For me distance learning or distance education is not applicable for Grade School because they still need to be guided by teachers on what they are doing. Also in High School and College because some things are to be learned physically and most importantly to have self-confidence on how we can socialize to other people. Graduate school may be applicable because they are now professionals in their fields.

I would not enroll in a distance learning school because for me its hard to learn if things are only taught online and there are no classmate that you can depend on times of problems. Still the best way to learn is to go to school because you get to meet other people and they can also share things that you don’t know.

The challenges of being a call center agent is how we can manage our patience if we are being insulted by the customer and how we can satisfy the needs of the customers. Also we must be fluent in speaking in English to properly communicate to the customers need. Working in a call center is also a good opportunity to make a good salary and benefits.

My reactions is that being a call center employee is a really good job cause you only sit and answer phone calls the whole day but it can be boring and yet you get a good wage. Also we get to practice our fluency in English and to build our confidence when talking to customers.

Computer literacy can also refer to the comfort level someone has with using computer programs and other applications that are associated with computers. Another valuable component of computer literacy knows how computers work and operate.

The advantages of having a computer literacy program to the elementary student are that they would know the basic things on how computer works and how to use it. It can help them arouse their basic computer skills and would be properly educated about computers. Through computer literacy they would discover lots of things by just using the internet. Also students may learn and gain lots of experience through it.

Disadvantages of having computer literacy program for the elementary students are that they may abuse the use of computers by playing computer games for many hours that could effect to lose their appetite. It would also make them a couch potato and its making them irresponsible.

It can be implemented here in the Philippines if the government would give attention to this and especially to the poor schools that could not afford to have a computer set. It would be a big help if young Filipinos would learn basics of computers because now jobs requires basic computer skills that can help to easily get jobs.

Youth of the land, you are a bitter pill to swallow.
This is a testament of the youth borne on the four pacific winds;
This is a parable of seed four ways sown in stone;
This is a chip not only on the President's shoulder:
The nation of our fathers shivers with longing expectation.
Shall we, sons and daughters, brother youths of the land,
Walk up new and forever knock the flirting chip off?
Or will the nation of our fathers be forever and forever
Lighting candles in the wind?
